In this Issue:
All across the country pool owners are turning to a simple system that can take a lot of the work out of swimming pool maintenance. Salt Chlorinators automatically produce chlorine in pool water so that you don't have to worry about adding it by hand. This means less time adding chemicals, and more time playing in your pool.
By keeping a constant chlorine level algae never gets a chance to take hold, so you won't have to shut your pool down for days at a time while you treat and clean up a green pool. Another advantage of these systems is that you don't have to buy chlorine anymore. This will save hundreds of dollars a year on chlorine tablets. Over the life of the system, a salt chlorinator should pay for itself in chemical savings alone.

No one likes to clean their pool. It is tedious, time consuming, and sometimes messy. This is why a lot of people would rather pay a service company than to try to do it themselves. The truth is that cleaning a swimming pool is not that difficult if you are armed with the right information. Here are some tips that our staff of professional pool cleaners have divulged for how to keep pools sparkling without sucking up all your free time.
- Keep your water Chemistry Balanced.
Maintaining proper water chemistry takes very little time and energy, and can save you from hours of work to clean up a problem that could have been avoided. Some people are intimidated by water chemistry because of what they remember from their high school chemistry class. Fortunately pool chemistry is much simpler than that. There are no formulas to memorize, no periodic table to study, and no tests. Well, actually there are some tests. But they are for your water, not for you. Weekly testing of the basic elements of water chemistry is a necessary check up for the health of your water. - Invest in a Good Quality Automatic Cleaner.
This is the one place where spending a little extra money can make a world of difference in how easy it is to take care of your pool. I don't want this to sound like a sales pitch, because I am very serious when I say that some cleaners are just plain better than others. An automatic cleaner should keep your pool clean most of the time. There are pools that are too difficult for a cleaner to keep up with (lots of trees around the pool makes it harder), and there will always be those windy days that trash the pool. Other than these exceptions your pool cleaner should do most of the work for you.
If you don't have a cleaner, get one. If you have one that doesn't clean the whole pool, or doesn't pick everything up, consider finding a new one. In my professional experience there is one cleaner that is head and shoulders above the rest. It is called simply "The Pool Cleaner". It outperforms every other cleaner that I have seen. If your cleaner already does a good job then don't waste your money, but if you are unsatisfied with what you have click here to learn about "The Pool Cleaner".
- Keep Your Pool Filter Clean.
Your pool filter is what takes dirt and debris out of the pool water, and keeps the pool clear and sparkling. When the filter gets dirty it reduces the circulation of the pool because the pump has to push the water through the dirt in the filter. If you have a cartridge filter try to clean it at least once a month. If you have a sand filter backwash it weekly. D.E. filters should be backwashed and recharged monthly, and the grids should be taken out and thoroughly cleaned once a year.
By taking good care of your pool filter all the rest of your equipment will work more effectively. Your pump will work less hard to push water through the system, your automatic cleaner will have more flow so it can do a better job, and your heater will be able to work more efficiently.
If you have a very windy day and you know a lot of dirt and debris is in the pool filter, wash it out right away. Waiting will only allow problems such as leaks, and algae growths to get a foothold. cleaning a pool filter is not fun and many people put it off as long as possible, but the consequences of a dirty filter can be costly and time consuming.
